Facebook and Instagram removed 2.7 crore posts in India in July


Social media platforms Facebook and Instagram have removed an estimated 2.7 crore posts in the month of July. Meta, in its monthly report, said that to comply with the rules and regulations related to social media platforms, it has removed approximately 1.73 crore posts for spam and about 2.3 lakh posts for violent and graphic content, as well as approximately 1.1 lakh posts related to hate speech. 

The company further said that they have responded to the users' reports. The company said that among the removed posts on Instagram, more than 9 lakh posts were about suicide and self-harm. While more than 22,000 posts contained hate speech and 3.7 lakh posts contained indecent content. 

The catch rate for this type of content was 99.5 percent, 77.4 percent and 96 percent respectively. Under the IT Rules, Meta's social media platforms have to respond to user complaints through a grievance redressal process.
